what是问“什么”，how是问“程度”。
比如今天什么天气“What's the weather like today?”而不是"How is the weather like today?”
其实两个句子在语法上都没错，只是侧重点不同。不过根据题意应该是想知道朋友的样子，而不是漂亮程度。
